“Now is the time to act. Not in six months, because we will be at war.”
With this stark warning about the danger of a return to armed conflict in Bosnia, Emir Suljagić – Director of the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Center – opens the Aegis Trust’s new 3-part podcast series ‘Peace at risk in Bosnia’.
Presented by Aegis founder and CEO Dr James Smith, the series unpacks the roots, context and potential solutions for the crisis now engulfing Bosnia and Herzegovina, 26 years after the genocide at Srebrenica which Emir survived as a 17-year-old translator for UN peacekeepers.
Who you’ll hear from
Alongside Emir Suljagić, the series features Tatjana Milovanović (Program Director for the Post-Conflict Research Center in Sarajevo), Hikmet Karčić (Genocide Scholar and Senior Researcher at the Institute for Islamic Tradition of Bosniaks in Sarajevo) and Jasmin Mujanović (political scientist and analyst of southeast European and international affairs).
How your voice can help
On December 10th, Milorad Dodik – leader of the Bosnian Serbs – finalised a plan for Republika Srpska to break away from Bosnia and re-establish the army which committed the genocide at Srebrenica, where more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were murdered in July 1995. As you will hear in the podcast, Bosniaks across the country are now preparing themselves for the worst.
It’s a desperate situation, but war is preventable. And using your voice, right now, could help stop it.
