On 18th November 2025, His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial and paid tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Accompanied by senior officials, he laid a wreath in honour of the more than one million victims.

During the visit, H.E. Sokhonn and his delegation toured the Memorial’s exhibits – which include a permanent section documenting Cambodia’s experience of genocide under the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s – gaining deeper insight into the historical causes, lived experiences, and lasting consequences of the Genocide against the Tutsi. The tour also highlighted Rwanda’s thirty years of reconciliation, resilience, and national rebuilding.

The visit offered a moment of solemn reflection and underscored the shared responsibility of nations to learn from the past in order to help prevent future atrocities. It also reaffirmed the role of remembrance in strengthening peace, unity, and international solidarity.

At the end of his visit, the Minister wrote in the Memorial’s guestbook. His message in French translates as:

“This visit to the memorial awakens painful memories, memories that Cambodians and Rwandans share, overcome, and carry forward with unwavering determination to rebuild a harmonious, peaceful, and united society. My deepest thoughts to all those who were lost, and courage to those who remain.” H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia
