On 26 October, 2025, His Excellency Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to honour the memory of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
During his visit, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali toured the memorial exhibits, learning about the historical causes, lived reality, and consequences of the Genocide, as well as Rwanda’s remarkable journey of recovery and rebuilding over the past three decades. The visit provided a moment of solemn reflection and a reaffirmation of the importance of remembrance in fostering peace and unity among nations.
At the end of his visit the Minister wrote in the Memorial’s guestbook, expressing his admiration for Rwanda’s resilience and the spirit of hope that defines its people. His message read:
“It was a great opportunity to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial. After all the pain and sacrifice, now is the time to inspire hope and peace in future generations. I saw that hope in Kigali and I am proud to see this today. Peace, love, and laughter for all human beings.”

The visit by Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs highlights the need for shared commitment across Africa to preserve memory, promote peace, and ensure that the lessons of the Genocide against the Tutsi continue to inspire future generations to build a world free from hatred and division.
