Screen_Shot_2014-01-24_at_17.50.0424 Jan 14 – The Discover Rwanda Youth Hostel, a social enterprise of the Aegis Trust, re-opened today following significant expansion work taking its capacity to 60 guests per night and increasing the training opportunities it can provide for young Rwandans.

Located in Kigali’s scenic Kacyiru neighborhood, the Hostel caters for a wide range of international visitors, from tourists and back-packing students and to professionals seeking value accommodation with a great local vibe.

The hostel has an atmosphere like no other,” says Aaron Moskal, a filmmaker from Los Angeles. “It’s a place with a buzz, a meeting place for people from different parts of the world.”

First opening its doors in September 2010, the Hostel works with Aegis’ ‘Rebuilding lives’ programme to support and provide professional development for genocide survivors in need. It also generates income to help sustain Aegis’ wider work, not least in peace-building education.

“I could not have wished for a better place to be,” says TripAdvisor reviewer ‘Eoghan W’. “When I left it felt like going away from home. Been here twice and will definitely be back again.”

”The reopening of the Discover Rwanda Youth Hostel is a

[moment of] pride for Aegis in Rwanda,” says Hostel Manager Claire Uwineza. “We are energetically and successfully involved in generating income which supports our social mission.”
