06 May 08 - Friends and colleagues of The Holocaust Centre from around the UK, including many Holocaust survivors, gathered at the Centre last week on Yom Ha Shoah, the annual day of remembrance for the Holocaust in the Jewish calendar.

The day’s programme started with an outline of developments at The Holocaust Centre, led by Director Dr Stephen Smith with presentations from members of the education team and The Journey team, including Malcolm Burrows, Vanessa Hopkinson, Karen Van Coeverden and Aneesa Riffat.

Dr Smith then chaired a discussion about issues and dilemmas in Holocaust education today, with a panel including Joanna Millan, Martin Stern and Ibi Ginsburg, active members of The Holocaust Centre’s survivor speakers team.

The afternoon finished with a memorial service and candle-lighting. Centre Co-founder Mrs Marina Smith lit the pilot light, and the memorial candles were lit by survivors Kitty Hart-Moxon, Roman Halter, Mala Tribich (pictured on the link to this article), Helen Aronson, Steven Frank and Eve Oppenheimer.

Kaddish was led by Rabbi Moshe Perez of the Nottingham Hebrew Congregation.
