Ms Kandic briefed parliamentarians and experts on the Humanitarian Law Centre's initiative to establish a regional truth commission for the former Yugoslavia. As a campaigner for truth and justice for victims, Ms Kandic leads the Humanitarian Law Centre in its mission to assist post-Yugoslav societies to re-establish the rule of law and come to terms with the legacy of large scale and systematic human rights violations. Ms Kandic is a recipient of over 20 international, regional and national human rights awards. In 2000 she was awarded the prestigious Martin Ennals Award for defending human rights. She was also listed by Time Magazine as one of 36 European heroes in 2003; three years later, Time Magazine again celebrated Ms Kandic as one of its heroes of the past sixty years.
